Month-End Close – Simplified Workflow

Purpose: 
Simplify and standardise your month-end close — clear steps, minimal rework, consistent every month. 

☐ Check that all income & expenses for the month are entered. 
☐ Gather missing invoices, receipts or bills from client. 
☐ Confirm all bank feeds and imports are up to date. 

Reconcile 

☐ Reconcile all bank accounts to statements. 
☐ Reconcile credit card & loan accounts. 
☐ Match customer payments & supplier payments to invoices. 
☐ Reconcile payroll and tax accounts if applicable. 

Adjust 

☐ Post depreciation and amortisation entries. 
☐ Record accruals or prepayments if needed. 
☐ Check and adjust stock/inventory if relevant. 
☐ Review and clear any suspense or holding accounts. 

Review 

☐ Review Profit & Loss for accuracy and reasonableness. 
☐ Check Balance Sheet for unusual balances. 
☐ Ensure all reconciliations are complete and balanced. 
☐ Save all supporting workpapers. 

Finalise & Report 

☐ Generate final reports: Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Aged Receivables/Payables. 
☐ Highlight key points or variances for the client. 
☐ Lock the accounting period. 
☐ Send reports and summary email to client. 
☐ Mark the job complete in your workflow system.
